This next set of pictures are of our dining room transformation. We have not changed the kitchen but we added a whole staircase up from the garage in order to have better access to the kitchen from the garage.
In order to add this staircase we lost a pink/purple bedroom and gained more room for the new bathroom, the staircase and the dining area. This is where it gets a bit confusing because, although our garage is in the basement, the house is a raised ranch, so part of the basement, including the 3 car garage, is actually above ground.
If you have ever encountered something more colorful and nasty than purple shag carpet in a home you have lived in, I want to hear about it!
It was just about a year ago that we bought this house in North Platte, NE. It was badly in need of some TLC, a hard worker named Dylan, and crews of family and friends, to come fix it up!
My friend Renea, who looked at the house with me initially, agreed that the basement looked like something out of the movie, “Silence of the Lambs”. But because Mark and I love a challenge we bought it and jumped in, creative juices flowing (fortunately we had sold our Denver house in October 2008).
After much debate, many drawings, lots of photos, experimental color pallettes, and lots of teasing about “half-walls” from our friends, we rennovated a house from Erie, PA while Mark finished school and I spent hours on the phone with our pal Dylan, who graciously lived in the house and spent every waking moment working on it so the six of us could move into it in June 2009.
It was an HGTV dream come true (or nightmare, depends on how you look at it). I thought it was time, one year later, to start showing you some pictures of the transformation – because it turned out AWESOME! What a home! Perfect for the Luby Howard family of 7! By the way, these first pics are just of the upstairs living room and entryway (the carpet smelled like gasoline and cat pee! eww!), later I will add some pics of other rooms throughout the house. Enjoy! Or be bored and click to some pics of our kids, whatever! 🙂
